About The Artist - Lucy Friar

Lucy Art Spring

Born and raised in the rolling landscapes of Yorkshire, Lucy Friar is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in the quiet beauty of the British countryside. Working primarily in watercolours and acrylics, she captures the gentle rhythms of rural life — from windswept moors and winding dry‑stone walls to the wildlife and farm scenes that have shaped her since childhood.
Much of Lucy’s inspiration begins behind the lens. She takes her own photographs while wandering through fields, farm tracks, and coastal paths — small moments she notices and wants to hold onto. Back in her studio, these images become the starting point for her paintings, allowing her to capture not just what she saw, but the feeling of being there.
Growing up with extended family who run working farms across Yorkshire, Lucy’s connection to rural life runs far deeper than scenery alone. Her childhood was filled with the sounds, textures, and stories of farm life — experiences that continue to influence the authenticity and warmth of her work.
Alongside her Yorkshire roots, Lucy has also spent many years on the Welsh coast in Abersoch, a place her family has returned to for generations. The shifting light over the sea, the rugged coastline, and the sense of calm found there often find their way into her paintings, adding a coastal thread to her otherwise countryside‑focused portfolio.
Today, Lucy continues to explore new techniques while staying true to the subjects that inspire her most. Whether she’s observing a barn owl sweeping across a field, sketching the quiet character of farm animals, or capturing the delicate details of coastal birdlife in Abersoch, her work celebrates the wildlife that brings these places to life. Each piece is created with the hope of bringing a sense of wonder, warmth, and the natural world into people’s homes — a gentle reminder of the creatures we share our countryside and coastlines with.
